He’ll Meet Your Need

Do you remember the story of Lazarus’ death and his miraculous resurrection? John 11 tells us how it unfolded. At the forefront of my mind is how Jesus overruled impossibility to meet the deep, heart-felt needs of Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha, in that experience.

Jesus arrived on the scene days after Lazarus had died. The miracle that his family had wanted hadn’t come in time. Still, Jesus said to Martha “Your brother will rise again” (John 11:23). To that, Martha replied that she knew he would rise again in the resurrection at the last day. There are times when the things we most need seem so far away. Jesus said to her “I am the resurrection and the life.” He brings what we need most within our reach.

Too often, when Jesus comes to us in our distresses, we do not reach for His grace right then and there. Somehow, the miracle we desire seems beyond us – something out of our reach and past the time of our immediate need. We must dare to believe that He will make special provision right here, right now even as we submit to His purpose in each situation.

His love will respond to our faith

God knows our needs better than we do. We may be upset because He doesn’t give a healing miracle but He knows that we need more than that. The Lord knew that what His friends really needed was to see His resurrection power. Martha, and all those with her, needed to see Omnipotence at work in a way they had never seen before. They needed to know that Christ could eliminate the deepest grief and restore love and life into our arms and hearts. At the tomb where Lazarus was buried, Jesus shouted “Lazarus, come forth!” Out he came!

The very thing we need is present with our Lord where He stands with us. Allow Him to give the timeline, you just trust Him to respond to the depth of your need right now.
